The Saur Sujala Yojana has freed thousands of farmers and their families from the concern of electricity bills. Solar pumps are powered by sunlight; therefore, farmers are freed from the mental stress of paying electricity bills. Under this scheme, farmers are getting solar irrigation pumps worth lakhs of rupees for a mere thousand. These solar pumps are providing them with perennial irrigation facilities.

Under the scheme, the state government is providing solar irrigation pumps with 3 HP and 5 HP capacities at affordable rates. Pumps with a 3 HP capacity of about Rs. 3.5 lakh is being provided to SC/ST farmers for Rs. 7000, OBC farmers for Rs. 12000, and general category farmers for Rs. 18000. A processing fee of Rs. 3000 is also applied.
Pumps with 5 HP capacity, priced at Rs. 4.5 lakh, are being provided to SC/ST farmers for Rs. 10000, OBC farmers for Rs. 15000, and general category farmers for Rs. 20000. A processing fee of Rs. 4800 has also been laid down for these pumps; the rest of the amount is being borne by the government as a grant. The scheme is being operated by the Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA).

Mrs. Shagani Bai Bhaskar, a farmer in the Tarasgaon Village under the Charama Development Block, said that she had applied for a power connection in her field but, because of the high expenses, she couldn’t obtain the connection. But when she heard about the Saur Sujala Yojana, she immediately applied for the scheme. After receiving the application, the Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA) installed a solar pump of 3 HP for just Rs. 10000 in her field. After that, the two-acre wasteland received an irrigation facility. Now she is conducting lac-farming in 90 Dismil of the land, generating a profit of Rs. 1 lakh 50 thousand. She is also growing yam, ginger, brinjal, etc., increasing their income. After the installation of the solar pump under the Saur Sujala Yojana, farmer Shagani Bai is delighted.
